Hello, my name is Jon Young, and I teach eighth grade United States History at
HMS. I am a product of a Blount County education. I graduated
from William Blount High School in 2000 where I played football and
participated in track & field. I graduated from Maryville College in 2004
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History Education. I also hold a
Master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln
Memorial University, and I am presently working on my Educational Specialist
degree from LMU. The upcoming year will be my 6th at Heritage Middle
School. I am very excited about the opportunity to work with
your child this year.
United States history is not just the study of the past, but it is also the
study of the present and the outlook on the future. I do not want my students
to simply memorize facts and dates; rather, I want them to gain an
understanding of the material that they will build upon in future history
classes and their lives. What good is knowing information if
you are not able to apply it? U.S. history is
merely a story about us.
