Graduation Information/Spring Senior Activities

 

Important Graduation Information for the Class of 2008

John Overton High School

 

There are several activities surrounding graduation that require your money and attention.  Please read and keep this information for reference.  If you want to participate in these activities, you must meet all payment deadlines. 

 

John Overton High School's Graduation ceremony will be held at the Belmont University’s Curb Event Center on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:00 pm.  Rehearsal will be at 9:00 a.m on the same day, Monday, May 19, 2008. YOU MUST ATTEND REHEARSAL TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION AT 7:00.

Senior Week Activities are coordinated by Ms. Evans and Mr. Taylor.  Senior Week will be the week of prom, April 21-25.  Senior Dues and payments for Senior Breakfast & Lunch will be collected during January.

            Senior Dues - $35.00

            Every senior who will participate in graduation ceremonies and/or Senior Week activities must pay senior dues.  Dues cover the costs of the graduation facility, security/medical personnel, flower arrangements, and other items and supplies needed for graduation and senior week.  Senior dues will be collected in January and are not covered by fee waiver. 

 

            Senior Picnic - $5.00; Senior Breakfast - $5.00    ($10 Total)

Senior Picnic is held outside on the football field one day during senior week.   Breakfast will be Friday morning during Senior Week.  Senior Lunch & Breakfast money will be collected in January and is not covered by fee waiver.

 

 

Graduation Activities are coordinated by Mrs. Wrenne and Mr. Trotter.  Honor Cord and Honor Stole money will be collected during February. 

 

            Caps and Gowns - $26.25 (Covered by Fee Waiver)

            Mr. Smiley of Herff-Jones will present information on ordering caps and gowns, invitations,       and other graduation items at a scheduled meeting on January 15th.  Orders will be taken

soon after.  A cap and gown are required for participation in graduation ceremonies.

 

            Graduation Invitations – Cost to be announced

            Mr. Smiley of Herff-Jones will meet with Senior Class Officers to select two invitation   designs.  Seniors will cast a vote to choose one of the two designs for the Overton 2008      invitations at a designated time.  Seniors are not required to order invitations.  Invitations are   not covered by fee waiver.  Mr. Smiley’s phone number is 329-2504.

 

            Honor Cords - $8.00

            Students in the Scholar’s Program who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 85 or above AND MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOLAR'S PATH may wear a cord as an accessory to his/her cap and gown.  White cords are for those Scholar’s Program students with a cumulative GPA of 85-92.  Gold cords are for those Scholar’s Program students with cumulative GPAs of 93 and above.  Money for Honor Cords will be collected in February/March by Mrs. Wrenne and is not covered by Fee Waiver.

 

            Honor Stoles - $13.00

            Students in the National Honor Society may wear an Honor Stole at graduation.   Money for Honor Stoles will be collected in February/March and is not covered by Fee Waiver. See Mrs. Belcher for information about membership dues and requirements for National Honor Society.

ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION EXERCISES

 

            1. Complete all required courses, credits and tests. (Diploma requirements can be found under the "MNPS Program of Studies" link on the Senior Webpage).

            2. Serve any detentions for tardies or other punishments.

            3. Turn in all textbooks & library books.

            4. Clear all school debts (sports, band, library, fundraisers, lost textbooks, etc.). 

                ***This includes debts from previous years.

            5. Have all required immunizations.

            6. Pay senior dues and purchase cap & gown.

 

 

Graduation ceremonies will be held at the Belmont University’s Curb Event Center on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:00 pm.  Any graduating senior participating in graduation ceremonies must adhere to dress requirements and must participate in rehearsal.  Rehearsal will take place at the CurbEvent Center at 9:00 the morning of graduation.

 

***Participation in graduation ceremonies is optional.

 

GRADUATION ATTIRE:

 

            Girls – Dark (or red) dress shoes.  Dress or skirt must not show below the hem of your gown.

 

            Boys – Dress shirt and tie.  Dark dress shoes, dark socks, dark dress pants.  No khakis or       jeans.  Dress jacket is optional.

 

*** OVERTON HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY STUDENTS DRESSED INAPPROPRIATELY OR BEHAVING INAPPROPRIATELY THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION EXERCISES. 

 

 

*Pictures will be taken as you receive your diploma, and will be available for purchase.
