Purpose of This Program

Wilson County Working Wonders

The Wilson County Working Wonders is a program housed at Lebanon High School, that was created for special needs young adults 18-22 years old who have received a high school diploma.  The purpose of this program is to provide students with disabilities an opportunity to experience and perform meaningful vocational practice skills in a natural environment.  During the students participation in community-based vocational training, they will have many training experiences as part of their career development.  They will receive training in vocational skills, functional academics, social and adaptive behavior skills in their local coummunity.

All students enrolled in the program will be accompanied to the various businesses by certified teachers and/or paraprofessionals employed by the Wilson County School System and transported to these sites by Wilson County school buses.  The exact type of work, location of the work, along with the days and times will be agreed upon by the business and the special education teacher.

This work training program is an extinction of the public classroom, therefore students are not paid while in this school program but are evaluated regularly.  The businesses are under no obligation to hire any student participate in this program.

The ultimate goal of this program is for the special need student to gain as much  independence as possible, become a productive citizen, and hopefully contribute back to their community as employed adults.
