Mrs. Atchley's Weekly Newsletter
September 6-9

Homework - Students need to read at least 15-20 minutes three nights each
week. Please remember to use your child's agenda as a reading log. Please
write the book title and the amount of time spent reading each night in their
agenda.

Spelling - This week we will be working on long i and short i sounds.
Please be sure that your child studies their spelling words every night for
the spelling test on Friday.

Reading - We will be reading the story My Name is Yoon. The skill for our
story is making and confirming predictions. Please practice this skill as you read
with your child at home this week.

Math - We will be working on comparing numbers using >, <, and =. We will
be recognizing a number using place value, number names, and expanded form.

***Students will be out of school this Friday, September 2nd. This is a Stockpile
Day for teachers. Students will also be out of school on Monday, September 5th
in observance of Labor Day.

***Each week we will have "I can" statements in the classroom to reinforce
what we are learning and to empower students with the knowledge that
they "can" learn and succeed. This week our "I can" statements are:

*I can write complete simple and compound sentences.
*I can write a narrative from beginning to end.
*I can identify the main idea and details of a story.
*I can distinguish between long and short vowel words.
*I can compare numbers using >, <, and =.
*I can recognize a number using place value, number names, and expanded form.
*I can recognize that people can be part of a group and still be themselves.

Thanks for all your support!
