Morning Routine- If your child would like to eat breakfast at school, serving
times are from 7:15 to 7:45 and the cost is $1.00. Children are not
permitted in the classroom before 7:30am. If your child arrives before 7:30,
he/she will be escorted to the gym until dismissed by staff in the classroom.
The children will be involved in various morning activities that include
marking a lunch choice, pledge to the flag, moment of silence, and properly
unpacking his/her backpack.
Daily Binders- Each child will be given a daily binder that will be brought
back and forth to school. The binder will include a zipper pouch for any
money that needs to be sent to school (lunch, field trip, school pictures, etc).
It is encouraged that after the first two weeks of school, each child
walks him/herself to class independently. This enables the students to feel
confident as well as builds responsibility and accountability. Teachers and
staff will be located in the hallways to ensure safety for all students.
KSMART- Each day, kindergartners will go to the gym for a half hour to work
on fine and gross motor skills. Children will be skipping, running, jumping,
etc. In order for your child to be safe during these activities, it is
necessary to wear tennis shoes to school each day. The second half of this
time will be spent in Specials Classes which include library, guidance, music, art,
and computer. After fall break, your child will be allowed to check out a book to
bring home. Please be sure to return the book before the next scheduled library.
Without a returned book, your child will be unable to check out a new book.
Our Specials Class Schedule:
Monday:Guidance
Tuesday:Library
Wednesday:Music
Thursday:Art

Recess- Each day, after lunch we will spend time participating in
unstructured play, either on the playground or in classroom centers. The
centers include the following: lego table, dry erase board, small or large
blocks, arts and crafts, writing table, reading, homeliving, puppets, and
computers. If you would like your child to stay in from outside play on a
given day, please send a note with your request.
Lunch- Our lunch time is from 11:16 to 11:41 each day. The price for
students is $1.55 per day. You may pay for your child's lunch by the day,
week, or month. Your child has been assigned a computer number to enter each
day on a keypad in our cafeteria. Please help your child memorize his/her
number as this will make the process more efficient. Parents are welcome to
eat lunch and the price is $3.00. A menu will given each month for you and
your child to review in case you would like to send a lunchbox.
Language Arts- Kindergarten uses the Fundation Phonics Program for teaching
letter recognition, letter sounds, and letter formation. Students will learn
to blend sounds into words by finger tapping each sound and will learn to
spell CVC words as we progress. We will write in journals each day. Many
will begin with drawings but will soon begin inventive spelling (write only
what they hear). This is expected for early writers.
Math- We use math big book stories, manipulatives, and leaflet pages teach
counting, patterns, shapes, more or less, addition, subtraction, measurement,
time, and money. We incorporate stories and manipulatives to teach all math
concepts. A concept is first introduced in a story, then it is explored with
manipulatives for a hands on experience, and finally children work
independently with leaflet pages for review.

Shapes, Nursery Rhymes, Five Senses, and Body Parts.

they will play games that are designed to reinforce language art skills. Each
skill is derived from the Language Arts portion of the State Standards.
Birthdays- If you would like to send a special treat on your child's
birthday, please send me a note several days in advance. Please remember that
we are unable to celebrate with a party but cupcakes, cookies etc are
acceptable. On your child's birthday, he/she will be the classroom line
leader as well as the helper for that day.

Rest Time- Rest time is very important for four-five-six year olds. It is
designed to be a quiet time in which they can relax. Although students are
not required to sleep, each must remain still and quiet during this time. Due
to limited space, mats are not allowed. Please send a towel with your child's
name written on the tag. Towels will be sent home on Fridays to be laundered.
Absences- If your child is absence, please send a note in order for your child
to be excused. Itis policy to notify the Truancy Officer after five unexcused absences.
The lack of a note after an absence equals an unexcused absence. Three tardies equal one absence.
Discipline- Your child's behavior will be marked each day on his/her behavior
calendar located in the front of the daily binder. Please initial each night
in the box that corresponds with the appropriate day. Behavior will be marked
by the following color codes:
Green= great day, earned all play time
Yellow= warning, loss of five minutes of play
Red= severe, loss of play time
The number code will be located at the bottom of each monthly behavior
calendar where parents will be informed of the rule that was broken. The
accumulation of red days can also equal the loss of parties, field trips, etc.
The Number Code:
1. Keep hands, feet, and objects to self.
2.Stay in seat.
3. Raise your hand to be called on to speak.
4. Take care of your school.
5. Use kind words.
6. Follow directions.
Rewards- Students may earn a trip to the treasure box or treat jar when
caught making good choices.
Dismissal- Dismissal time is 1:50 and children may be picked up in the front of the
building. Please drive around the circle drive and remain in your car until
your child is brought to you by a staff member. Daycare riders will exit from
the kindergarten wing at the east end of the building. Since kindergarten is
dismissed an hour earlier than the rest of the school, children will be unable
to ride the bus home from school. If you would like to pick your child up
before 1:50, you must sign them out in the office. IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR
CHILD'S TRANSPORTATION, YOU MUST DO SO IN WRITING.
Conferences- There will be two scheduled conferences. One in the fall and
one in the spring. This will be a time to discuss your child's progress.
Please feel free to schedule additional conferences as you feel needed.

that will be taught the following week! This can also be found on my website!
