The first two weeks of November we will be learning about the people in
our community who help us. We'll learn about police officers, nurses,
doctors, fire fighters, dentists, and postal workers. We've got a field trip
planned to go to the Lebanon Post Office to see how our mail gets from the
post office to our house and then go to the fire station to see where the
fire fighters live and the trucks that help them fight the fires. We will
pretend to be doctors and nurses in our hospital center in our classroom,
create a city with the construction center, put together a community helpers
puzzle and practice writing or tracing the words to the community helpers we
are learning about.
The next unit will be on the different types of transportation. We will
talk about trains, cars, trucks, airplanes, and boats. We will have a bus
station in one of our centers and pretend to go on a trip, create a track for
our trains to run on and make our own airplanes out of tongue depressors.
The short week before Thanksgiving we will talk about things we are
thankful for. We will read about the first Thanksgiving and play a turkey
game with numbers.
The last week as we head into December will be talk about Families.
We'll draw a picture of the people in our family and discuss what it means to
be a part of a family. We'll read several books about animals and their
families including "Goldilock's and the Three Bears". The children love to
act out this familiar story and they will get to do that at center time!
Please remember our Fall Bazaar November 6th. This is the only
fundraiser for each classroom and we are needing 100 2-liter soft drink
bottles. You can either send in a bottle or we are excepting cash donations
and we'll go buy the bottles. We are working with the other two pre-k
classrooms to play a game called "Ring a Pop" and the money collected from
children playing this game at the Fall Bazaar will be split between the 3
rooms. We are also doing a Cookie Basket for the auction that evening. All
the money from this basket will go to our room. We are asking for donations
of things people use when making cookies or you can send in money and we'll
purchase items for the basket. If you have any questions please call or ask
me or Ms. Mary when you bring your child to school. We appreciate your help!
