We will be reading 2 great books this month. The first is "Cookie's
Week." This book is about a cat that gets into all kinds of trouble each day
of the week. The pictures are great fun and the children catch onto the
sequence of the story quickly. We learn the days of the week as Cookie makes
a mess of something everyday and they learn that even on Sunday, Cookie only
rests for a short time before she's off getting into trouble again. On
Thursday we will put the story in order using the days of the week as our
guide.
The next book is "Polar Bear Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?". Like "Brown
Bear Brown Bear" this book is about animals but this time we are hearing the
sounds the animals make and not just seeing them. These animals are ususal
animals too and the vocabulary in the book is wonderful because they are
probably words most children don't hear often or have never heard - like
a "braying" zebra, or "fluting" flamingo! We will act out the book on
Thursday and they are using some wonderful masks to help them get into
character.
The last week of December we will review some of the great books we have
read over the past 2 months.
