Homework

Read with your child for 15 minutes every night. Ask questions
about the story to check their understanding. They should be able to describe
where and when the story takes place. Who were the characters in the story?
What were the events that happened in the story? What was the problem in the
story and how was it solved? Was it real or fantasy? These questions will
help train your child to think about what is happening in any story that they
read, which will help to increase their comprehension. Rereading familiar
stories also helps with comprehension, as well as with fluency. Check with
your child's teacher to find out how many words they should be able to read
per minute, and then time them once a week for practice to see if they are
improving.
