I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It was nice to have some cooler weather. Thank you to
everyone who has sent in extra supplies for our classroom. Please remember to check your child’s
agenda and folder each day. We really appreciate it. Some students are having trouble with a few skills.
If I send home work in your child’s R.O.Y.A.L. folder, please practice with your child.
In Language this week, we are going to working on blending sounds to read words and sight words.
By the end of the week, your child’s sight words will be checked off on the yellow sheet in his/her
R.O.Y.A.L. folder. The words which are not checked on the list are words he/she needs to work on. In
Spelling this week, we are going to work on direction words- circle, number, write, draw, color, glue,
cut, read. These should be written in your child’s agenda book. We will have our Spelling test on Friday
over these words. Please practice at home.
In Math, we are working on addition. Students will learn about the order property (reversal of
addends), doubles, and doubles plus 1. Math vocabulary for the week is: order, count on, double, and
number line. Please practice the addition facts which are in the R.O.Y.A.L. Folder at home. It’s important
for students to memorize facts. This will help them greatly.
In theme, we will begin learning about Tennessee. This week our focus will be on map skills and
landforms of TN.
Homework:
Take Home Reading- Your child will bring home his/her take home reader in a bag. Please read this
book with your child and then document it on the reading log in his/her R.O.Y.A.L. folder. Books should
be read each night and returned to school the next day.
Spelling- Each week your child will bring home his/her Spelling Journal. All Spelling homework
should be written in it and turned in no later than Friday.
Write Spelling words 3 times each.
Take a practice Spelling test.
Have a great week!
Poetry folder- Each week your child will bring home his/her poetry folder. There are ideas for how
to read with your child taped on the inside of the folder. Please practice the poem with your child a
couple of times. The folder should be returned by Friday of each week.
