We have a
variety of make believe learning stations in our classroom where students have
the opportunity to socially interact
with their peers as they pretend to take on roles of "family members". As they
embark on the adventure of learning, students are given an opportunity to
create play plans that describe what role they would like to play and what
they will be doing in their role. Students have the opportunity to take on the
role of a mother(represented by wearing an apron), father(represented by
wearing a tie), brother(represented by wearing a cap), sister (represented by
wearing a skirt), grandmother (represented by wearing glasses), or grandfather
(represented by wearing suspenders). Below
you find a list of the make believe centers.
The Bathroom:
Parents give the
baby a bath, dry, and diaper the baby. Sister and brother help as the parents
fix brother and sister's hair.
The Garage:
Parents and/or
grandparents paint the house, build a shed and or repair or wash the car.
Brother and sister help with tools as they finish the job. The family prepares
for a trip as they pack up the car.
The Laundry
Room:
Mom, dad, or
grandparents sort the clothes with sister and brother's help. They also hang
the clothes to dry, iron, and fold the clothes.
The Bedroom:
Brother, sister
and or baby are read a bedtime story, as they prepare for bed. As the lights
are turned off, they pretend to sleep. The family is also busy feeding and
rocking the baby to sleep, and making up the bed.
The Kitchen:
Parents cook the
food as the children set the table. Everyone eats, the parents, sister,
brother, or grandparent feed the baby and wash the dishes.
The Living
Room:
This is where
the family gathers together. In the Living Room, the family watches their
favorite television show, fixes puzzles, eats popcorn, reads a magazine or
book, and look at family pictures.
