Parent Messages

Last night, we had our 2nd Family Night at Coles Ferry Elementary. The topics of discussion were based on how to talk to your child about abuse, the importance of preparing healthy meals for your child, and how to read to  and with your child effectively.

Thank you to those parents who contributed to Emmelin’s farewell package. Unfortunately, Emmelin was sick and did not have an opportunity to say goodbye to the class. However, Mrs. Amy and I were able to take the gifts to her home and share them with her before she left. She, as well as her parents, were very surprised and thankful to know how much she was loved!

If you have signed up to bring in something for our Thanksgiving Feast, please send in those items by Monday, November 23rd.

Due to the short week of school next week, we will NOT be sending home our Take Home Readers. We will resume our Take Home Readers during the week of November 30th.

Focus Letter and Concept

This week, we began reviewing the four basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, and rectangle. During our study we read books about the shape of the day, sang and played a special song/game with the shapes, shared our shape mystery sacks, and ate snacks that represented the shape of the day .

Our letter of the week was letter “Ee”. We talked about the sound that “Ee” makes, things that begin with the letter, and met our letter friend, Elmo the Elephant.  In addtion, we completed a envelope sort, made an edible turkey (Thanks to Mrs. Deago- Ryan’s mom), charted our favorite types of eggs (scrambled, fried,  or boiled), and constructed the Earth with shapes. To compliment our letter study our nursery rhyme was “Eeny Meny Miny Mo”.

Make Believe Play Concept

As we continue to expand on our study of restaurants, the children are exploring the idea of make believe play in a sit down restaurant, a drive thru, an ice cream shop, pizza parlor, and a fast food restaurant.

During their make believe play periods the children have the opportunity to take on the role of a waitress, hostess, cashier, cook, customer, manager, worker, dishwasher, and server. Ask your child, which props are used to act out these roles.

Parent and Child Time

Each day, we create a morning message and answer a mystery question. Ask your child to share the morning message and the mystery question of the day.

Go on a shape hunt around your house. Help your child locate an object that represents a circle, square, triangle, or a rectangle.

Ask your child to show/tell you how many sides and corners a circle, square, triangle, or rectangle has.

Ask your child what sound Ee makes. Give them clues about things that start with Ee.
