Counselors to Host Community Forum on Online Safety
The Henderson County School counselors will be hosting forums for parents and community leaders concerning significant issues facing our children on a daily basis. At these forums, the counselors will present information on the challenges our children face and what adults can do to support them. These C-4 Meetings, Counselors Communicating about our Community’s Children, will be held on an ongoing basis at schools in the district.
The first meeting in the series will be held Thursday, March 1st at Scotts Hill High School, and Tuesday, March 6th at Lexington High School. Meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Parents, grandparents, guardians, and church and community leaders are invited and strongly encouraged to attend.
The purpose of this first meeting is to inform and discuss with parents the importance of helping your child protect their online reputation, net safety issues, and cyber bullying. In addition, survey results will be given relative to Henderson County student’s technological exposure and usage. Studies show that more than 85% of students nationwide have an online profile on social media sites such as Facebook. The rapid growth of this type of social media and easy access to the internet, in the past five to six years, presents students and parents with many new challenges. Please join us for these very informative meetings.
