On Monday of each week, unless we are out on a Monday, we will be writing new
Reading Vocabulary Words and their definitions. These should be in your
child's Homework Folder fastened in the middle by the silver prongs. They
need to study these words and definitions every night. There will be a
Reading Vocabulary Test on Friday. It is also important to read the story
several times in the week, as time permits, and ask questions for your child
to answer in order to ensure that your child is listening and understands
what is being read.
In Math, we will have "FACT SHEETS" with addition, subtration and later
multiplication facts on them. As new facts are introduced, we practice
drills in the classroom daily until it is time for assessment test. I will
be checking these and sending home those sheets where problems are incorrect
to show the problems that students have not yet mastered. I need you to help
them learn these. It is so important that students have these facts
mastered. These facts are the backbone of math. Learned, actually memorized
at an early age, they will never be forgotten and will be used in their
future classes as well as throughout life. You can make flash cards with
the facts and practice them, then make your student a short test of the
problems that they have practiced.
