About The Coach

Coach Nelson is a graduate of Union University in Jackson.  He was a 
baseball player for the Bulldogs and graduated with a BS degree in Health 
and Physical Education and a minor in Biological Science.

After spending over 20 years in the classroom teaching middle school 
science, Six years ago, Coach Nelson returned to his first love-PE.  He 
spent the first years of his teaching career teaching Kindergarten, 5th, 
6th, 7th and 8th grade PE in a neighboring area system.  While in that 
system, he served as varsity head baseball coach and also served as  an 
assistant coach in football and basketball.He was fortunate enough to coach 
on two state championship teams while there.

He first entered the Gibson County district in the early 80's to  guide the 
Medina Schools' early football program with whom he won 8 district 
championships, four of which were undefeated.  Also during this span of time,
he  coached girls basketball, softball, and began a middle school volleyball 
program.  He later served as assistant and  head coach for the Gibson County 
Lady Pioneers softball team.

Coach Nelson is married and is the proud father of two children and two great
children-in-law and one fantastic new grand daughter. The second grandchild
will be arriving near the Christmas season. He is an avid outdoorsman
with a particular interest in gardening and fishing.

Goals of the Program

1.  To ensure that the PE curriculum is met through a wide ranging set of 
activities that instructs through enjoyable means.
2.  To provide a safe environment in which to have fun during learning 
activities.
3.  To promote healthy self-esteem by providing a means of instruction in 
which everyone can enjoy success.
4.  To heighten student awareness of lifelong health goals.
5.  To allow every student at every level an equal opportunity to particpate 
in all games, activities, and learning sessions.
