 Dear Hornet Families,

  Get your schedules out, here are the latest dates to remember:
Jan 4: 3rd 6 wks report cards come home
Jan 16: no school
Jan 17: Social Studies Time Line Project Due & PTO Meeting 6pm
Jan 25: Class Pictures
Jan 27: PAL League Pictures 5pm
Jan 31: 4th Mid-six Weeks Report come home
 
Here is what we will be working on this week:

Reading: Rosa and Blanca- We are focusing on prediction, view point and plot, 
long i sounds, and learning some new spanish words.  Please be aware that I 
am asking each student to step up their game and write longer and better 
descriptive sentences of at least 5-6 words.  Vocab: tortillas, luckiest, and 
cilies. Amazing words: generous and assist.

Math: Topic 8   This will be over adding numbers up to 100 and continue
working on mental math for subtraction and addition.  Keep drilling those 
subtraction facts and reading face clocks at home! The home connection game 
sheet is a fun way to review the skills of week as well!

Language: This week we are reviewing verbs:  present, past, future.
Identify them with your student at home in thier reading story for extra 
practice. 

Social Studies: We are studying Martin Luther King Jr. and how he changed 
history with his life.  Your child is to do a Time Line project on his/her 
life with pictures and a sentence under each picture at least 5 words long.  
These are due Jan. 17th.  Our words for this months study of black history 
month are peaceful, helpful, polite, honest, risk, and respect.

Science: We are studying the different types of matter: solid, liquid, or 
gas.  Also, the type of transparency of an object: transparent, translucent, 
or opaque. Go to brainpopjr.com **user name: tucker 1 **Password: gibson and 
watch the matter videos and take the online quiz to help your child 
understand the different types of matter. Your child will 
bring home the lesson outlines we complete in class to use as a study guide.
Our Science test on matter will be on Jan. 11th.
Vocab: matter, mass, property, solid, gas, volume, liquid, temperature, 
physical change, chemical change.
