Homework Policy

I believe homework is important because it helps students make the most of their experience in school. I give homework because it reinforces lessons learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.

Homework may be assigned Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. The average homework assignment may require 30 minutes to complete. Time to start assignments will be given in class.

Students have been given an agenda to copy their assignments. I will check to see that assignments are copied. Please sign the agenda every day (Fridays too) and see that it comes back to school daily. Not having the agenda in class will count as not having one assignment. Students will pull a card if the assignments are not copied. A card will be pulled if the agenda is not signed.

The RED pocket folder will be the homework folder to keep work in. I may send you notes in the RED folder or the agenda. Students that choose not to do homework or have incomplete class work must complete the work during their RECESS time. If the student gets too behind in work, after school detention may be assigned. Parents will be contacted if the student continually does not turn in homework. A signed note from the parent can explain any LEGITIMATE reason why the homework was incomplete, but the work must be completed during RECESS time.

I request that parents make homework a top priority at home, provide the necessary supplies, and a quiet environment. Setting a daily homework time can be helpful. If your child has trouble with the work, help guide them but in no case do the work for them. I'd rather you send me a note to let me know what your child does not understand.

Please discuss this policy with your child.
