About The Teacher

	WELCOME TO MEIGS!

	My name is Babs Rector. I have been teaching in Metro for 25 years, 
20 of those in 5th grade. I enjoy reading, math, and science, and I love solving 
math and science problems! I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees 
from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, and I have been fortunate 
enough to keep a professional working relationship with some of the 
Vanderbilt educators. In May 2009, I completed  a second master's 
degree from Loyola of New Orleans.
	My teaching partner for 2011-12 will be Latasha Puckett who is joining Meigs this year.  We 
provide opportunities for a variety of learning activities that include individual research, technology, 
and group problem-solving.
       I believe that students should be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning in order to 
become life-long learners. I invite you to send me a note (or e-mail) or call me with any questions; 
please let me know if you are able to volunteer to assist in the classroom periodically. You are 
welcome to visit the classroom to observe or work, but, as a courtesy to our class and to limit 
disruption to learning, you must get permission from the office in advance. All conferences must be 
scheduled during planning time or after school so that instructional time is not interrupted.
