Welcome to Sixth Grade Math & Health

February 5, 2010

This Week in Math:
This week we have wrapped up our Plane Geometry units.  There will be a chapter test for all classes on Monday, February 8th.  Think Link (a TCAP preditor test) will be given on Tuesday, February 9th.
The nine weeks Extra Credit Project has been discussed in class and is now posted online.  Please consider doing this project to raise your grade!  It is due on March 5th.

This Week in Health:

The weather has been dreadfully cold so far in 2010 and we have spent our Physical Activity time indoors.  Please know that if it is below freezing, we will definitely stay inside!  However, if the temperature is above freezing and the wind chill is not too low, our classes will be going outside.  Remember to dress appropriately for the weather.  Bring a heavy coat to school.  You might consider bringing gloves, a scarf, and a hat as well.  Although the cold isn’t always pleasant, it is nice to get a breath of fresh air and work off some energy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome Back! I hope you all have had a restful two weeks and are ready to begin our second half of the year.  Please take some time to re-orient yourselves with all Class Policies to ensure a good beginning to 2010.  If you noticed some weaknesses last semester, now is the time to set some obtainable goals to make this year the best one yet!  Some basic suggestions are:

*Keep your Math Notebook organized and get it signed each Tuesday!  (We will organize in class on 01.05.10 to get you started.)  By getting your notebook signed, you can earn No Homework Passes.

*Commit to checking your grades on Grade Speed once a week.  Tuesday night would be a good time since you will already be communicating through your Math Notebook.

*Make sure you have the appropriate supplies for class.  You know that you will need pencil, paper, an agenda, and your textbook every day. By making sure you are prepared for class, you are setting yourself up to be able to pay attention and learn the skills you need.

*Set a personal behavioral goal.  Remember: if you have fewer than 5 demerits a month, you will be rewarded.  Is there a person in class who distracts you?  Ask Mrs. Bybee to move you!  (She will!)  Do you spend class time daydreaming?  Find interesting ways to take notes to keep yourself engaged!  Good behavior sets you up for academic success!

I think that our time together in 2010 is going to be productive and fun.  We have lots to learn and goals to meet and I know you can be successful.  I am so thankful we are on this journey together.

LOVE YOU ALL!

Mrs. Bybee
