HEAD LICE
Parents, please check your child's head weekly for signs of head
lice. When found early, it is much easier to completely get rid of this
condition with only one treatment. Don't panic! It should not be an
embarrassment to you or your child. It is very important to remove ALL nits
before returning to school. Some nits will have to be removed by pulling
them off the hair with your fingernails--ever wonder where the term "nit
picking" came from? Now you know!! All linens and clothing (including
coats and hats) should be washed in hot water. Items that you are unable to
wash (such as pillows) need to be put in your dryer on the hottest setting
for at least 20 minutes. Vacuum all carpet and clean all combs and brushes
in boiling water. Please call me if you need further instructions. Talk to
your children about not sharing brushes, headbands or hats. Make sure your
child takes his or her personal pillow to all sleepovers and wash linens
that your child's friends use when at your house. Together, we can reduce
the frequency of head lice at MES.

MEDICATION
Any student needing to take medicine during school hours must
have the medication brought inside the school by an adult, in the original
prescription bottle or unopened over-the-counter package. A parent or
guardian must sign a consent form before school personel can administer
medication to students. Please keep in mind that temporary medications,
such as antibiotics do not need to be administered at school UNLESS it is
prescribed FOUR times daily. Any medication prescribed once, twice or three
times daily should be given at home. Please call me if you have any
questions.
