Classroom Discipline Policy

Parents:

I am looking forward to an exciting year filled with fun and LOTS of learning!  In order for all the students to have a safe environment conducive to learning, I have developed the following Discipline Plan.

I have discussed these Rules/Rewards/Consequences with my students.  Please read and discuss this plan again with your child.  Sign the back page and return all to school.  This Discipline Plan will be kept in the BULLDOG Folder for future reference.  I appreciate all that you do to support our classroom policies.

Classroom Rules:

BE RESPECTFUL

BE RESPONSIBLE

MAKE GOOD CHOICES

Use kind words and actions.

Come to school and class ready to learn.

Follow directions.

-Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak or leave your seat.

-Keep your hands, feet,  and objects to yourself.

-Speak kindly to each other.

-Bring paper, pencils, folders, and agenda to class every day.

-Turn in completed assignments on time.

-Listen carefully and follow directions the first time they are given.

-Follow all school procedures.

Rewards:

Students will be rewarded for good behavior by receiving special privileges to be determined.  Students who demonstrate exemplary work and behavior will be allowed to bring $2 and go to canteen on Friday.  The school is planning on some school wide rewards to be announced.  Students will also receive stickers on their behavior chart.  When five stickers are earned, they get to choose an item from the treasure chest.  Also, “Dog Bone” awards may be earned for exemplary behavior.

Consequences:

If your child breaks a rule:

Gentle  Reminder:  Purple Paw Print ticket is pulled, green ticket showing.

Friendly Reminder:  Green ticket pulled. (If proper behavior is demonstrated after green ticket is

pulled, the green ticket may be earned back for the day.)

“Be Careful” Warning:  Yellow ticket pulled, 10 minutes time-out, note in agenda/conference

                                       with teacher.

“Watch-out” Warning:  Red ticket pulled—20 minutes

time-out, conference with teacher, note in agenda / phone

                                       call to parents.

“Strike”:  Blue ticket pulled –Conference with teacher, loss of privilege, note/phone

call to parents.  Student’s desk may be moved to an isolated area. *When the student

pulls the blue ticket, it will be documented as a minor offense.  After a student has

pulled the blue ticket for one day, each following offense will result in another strike

(minor offense).  Three strikes result in a major offense.

1st Major:  Parent notified, student will miss School Wide Positive

Behavior Rally, has missed canteen, and other possible

                                                          privileges.

2nd Major:  Parent notified, detention may be assigned and as 1st major.

3rd Major:  Parent notified, student will go to the office where principal,

teacher, and parent will determine appropriate discipline.

PLEASE Note:  Students must stay on green the entire week to be allowed to participate in canteen.

PLEASE Note:  Extreme misbehavior may result in an automatic Minor or Major.  See pages 11 and 12 in the Agenda for the policy on issuing an automatic Minor or Major.

**Strikes/Minors-Majors start over each grading period. However, if a student receives a Major at any time during the year, they may not attend the End of the Year Rally.

PLEASE Note:  The color system starts over daily.  Students will start with the purple paw print each day.

PLEASE Note:  I ask that you check and sign your child’s agenda each day.  A purple paw print stamp will show great behavior.

Students LEARN to make good choices for themselves when they are supported by caring teachers and adults.  I emphasize teaching and supporting positive behavior choices. When a student chooses inappropriate behavior, I view this as an opportunity to teach how to make better choices and then support the student’s efforts through praise, acknowledgement, and rewards.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school 686-0840.  My planning time is from 8:35-9:20 daily.  Thank you in advance for your support.  I look forward to a wonderful year.

_______ Please sign and return to school.  Thank you, Mrs. Adkins

I have read the classroom Discipline Plan and have discussed it with my child.
