I have a passion for music and I want to instill that passion and love of
music to the children that come through Milan Elementary School. We hope to
develop singing skills, listening skills and also learning to read music in
the Treble Clef. Different age groups learn to play rhythm instruments and
in the 4th grade we learn to play an instrument called the recorder. My
desire is that my students have "fun" in my class as they learn to
experience music. Most of them don't realize how much they are learning and
that is one reason it is so exciting. Music should be fun for children. At
MES we have 3 musical/drama productions. The 3rd grade performs a Christmas
musical each year and the 1st grade performs a spring musical. 4th grade
does a play each year that they audition for speaking parts. All these
programs are fantastic and are open to the community to support and enjoy.
About my family...I am marrried and have three children (grown up children
if there is such a thing). My oldest son is Brandon and he is in Pharmacy
School in Memphis, Tn. He got married last year to a very wonderful young
lady named Sarah. My middle son Jordan is a senior at Austin Peay
University and he is majoring in exercise science. He loves weight lifting
and running to keep in shape. My youngest child is Anna. She goes to
Bethel College and wants to be a teacher. She plays basketball for the
Bethel College Lady Wildcats and I stay very busy going to their basketball
games to watch her play. She loves basketball as much as I love music. It's
great to have a passion for something. I have a really special husband
named Dennis. Most people call him Brother Dennis because he is the pastor
of the First Baptist Church in McKenzie, which is where we live. Even
though I do not live in Milan, I see how special this community is and how
it supports its fine arts programs. Thank you!! Fine arts ARE very
important!!
The mission for Milan Special School District is to involve students,
families, MES faculty and staff, and community in providing an inviting,
safe atmosphere in which students can achieve their full potential
intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically and morally.
