Homework

AP Seniors: This class is a challenging look at literature and writing. The
students have a syllabus that we will use to move the year together. It is
set up by weeks and any changes that will be made will be done in the
classroom. There will be many readings done outside of the classroom and
writing of essays will be completed, in class and out. For the the first two
weeks, smaller writing projects will be assigned and also the reading of some
contemporary poems, along with classics. We will be reading and writing about
four love poems. Students will have the oppurtunity to take the National AP
Exam at the end of the year.

We have now moved into short stories and will be reading some longer pieces.
We also will be studying the Shakespeare piece "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
We have also started a new novel 'Lord of the Flies' by William Golding. Some
of the novel has been read in class and some will be read at home. The novel
will entail discussion, weekly BLOGs and weekly essays (due on every Friday).
We also have just completed a design of costumes for the play and have
presented them. Check out the BLOG in which this was discussed. Great Job!

Be sure to BLOG if a new topic is up! I will tell you when I place a new one
on the site.

English 11: This class will focus on the state standards and will prepare the
students for the EOC test and state writing assessment. We have now moved
into our poety unit in which we study classic poets such as Whitman and Poe.
Students will be responsible for reading poetry, writing poems, and giving
oral presentations.

The state writing assessment will be given in Feb. so throughout the month of
Jan. we will preparing for the assessment. We have been focused on practicing
for the timed assessment. The assessment was given and the scores will be
back in the beginning of May. We are now on the final stages of the reseacrch
paper and will begin work on the EOC prep. Each student will have an EOC
folder in class, and this will be used as a study folder at the end of the
class to help study for the EOC. Please ask your child each night if there is
any practice work, there maybe some for EOC!

Please contact Mrs. Rainey if you have any questions about a student or any
