  Here's what's happening at the MHS Guidance Department. 
  Final exams for Trimester 2 will be Feb. 15 and 16.
  Seniors who have at least a 29 ACT and 3.5 GPA, may apply for the Ned 
McWherter Scholarship. Go to Tn.gov/collegepays.org by February 15.
  Middle Tennessee State University Biology Department is offering 
scholarships. Applicants must take a competitive exam on April 5. See Ms. 
Parkins for info.
  Seniors planning to attend Ole Miss see Ms. Parkins about the Chancellor's 
Leadership Class and $1000 scholarship by March 1.
  Seniors planning to attend UTC and major in mathematics can apply for the 
Marjorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship, The BlueCross BlueShield of 
Tennessee Mathematics Scholarship and the Dorothy Dean Shelton Mathematics 
Scholarship. See Ms. Parkins for details. Application deadline is March 15.
  Antioch College in Yellow Spring, Ohio, is waiving the tuition for all its 
students who enroll in the next three years. After closing in 2008, alumni 
support has reopened Antioch's doors and students will have numerous work 
opportunities during their four tenure. The value of the free tuition is 
$26,500.
  The Gibson County Fair Association is offering a scholarship to seniors 
planning to major in agriculture or Family and Consumer Sciences. See Ms. 
Parkins for an application. Deadline is March 30.
  Nite Lite Theatre is offering an Arts Scholarship to seniors planning to 
major in a fine art. See Ms. Parkins for an application. Deadline is March 
30. 
  Buick and the GM Foundation are launching the Buick Achievers Scholarship 
Program for the 2012-13 school year. Applicants should be enrolling full-time 
at a four-year college or university, plant to major in science, technology, 
engineering, math, Business Administration, Finance, or Marketing or Design, 
and have an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related

Deadline is February 29.
  Cargill is offering a Community Scholarship to seniors living near Cargill 
communities. Go to www.cargill.com for an application and guidelines. 
Applications require the signature of a Cargill employee and are due Feb. 15.
  The Cancer Care Center is offering the 2012 Cancer Care Center Scholarship. 
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 19 ACT score, and write briefly 
about how cancer has affected their lives. Go to www.cancercarecenter.org to 
apply or see Ms. Parkins for an application. Deadline is March 16.
  Jackson State Community College 2012-2013 Academic Service and Foundation
Scholarships applications are available. To be eligible to apply for the
Academic Service Scholarship, students must have a minimum of a 3.0 gpa and
at least a 19 on the ACT. See Ms. Parkins for an application or go to
http://www.jscc.edu/financial-aid/forms-and-applications.html to download
one. Deadline for both is March 15.
  Bethel University is hosting its 24th Annual Hendrix Scholarship
competition of February 17th and 18th. Seniors who have at least a 3.25 GPA
and a 24 on the ACT are invited to compete for these full scholarships. Go to
www.bethelu.edu/admissions/hendrix_app to apply by Feb. 11.
  The Bird Dog Foundation's Annual College Scholarship Essay Contest is now
open to college-bound seniors. Go to www.birddogfoundation.com to apply by
April 15.
  The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is currently 
accepting applications for the 2012 Veterinary Summer Experience Program, 
June 4-July 27, 2012. To apply, students must be a current junior or senior, 
be at least sixteen by June 4, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and not participated 
in the program previously. Go to www.vet.utk.edu/summerexperience for 
information. Applications must be electronically submitted by March 5, and 
supplemental materials postmarked by March 6.
  UT Knoxville's College of Engineering invites African-American, Hispanic
American, Native American and female students to explore the world of
engineering this summer at one of its pre-college programs. Rising 7th and
8th graders are invited to MITES taking place June 17-22 or June 24-29;
Rising 9th and 10th graders are invited to INSTEP taking place July 8-13; and
Rising 11th and 12th graders are invited to HITES taking place July 15-20 or

Juniors interested in attending The University of Mississippi's Lott
Leadership Institute this summer see Ms. Parkins ASAP so you can be nominated.
  Austin Peay State University invites seniors with a minimum ACT score of
26, and a GPA of at least a 3.5 to apply for the President's Emerging Leaders
Program (PELP). PELP is a rigorous program that stresses leadership, service
and scholarship. To apply, go to http://www.apsu.edu/pelp/application before
the deadline: Feb. 15, 2012.
  Kentucky Fried Chicken invites seniors with financial need and an
entrepreneurial spirit to apply for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program.
Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks and room and board.
Seniors must have at least a 2.75 gpa, plan to go to a four year college, be
a U.S. citizen, and demonstrate financial need. Go to www.kfcscholars.org
beginning on Dec. 1 to apply. Deadline is Feb. 8, 2012.
  The University of Memphis Lambuth Campus is offering campus tours on
Mondays at 3:00 p.m., Tuesdays, at 9:30 a.m., and Fridays at
1:30 p.m. Call Mandie Sanford at 731-427-4725 to schedule a tour.
  Seniors who are associated with the Manufactured housing industry either
by living in one or having a relative who works in the industry may apply for
the Stan and Thelma Plumlee Scholarship. See Ms. Parkins for an application.
Deadline is March 9, 2012.

  ACT tutoring is offered during open lunch by these teachers: Mondays:
Adams and Jackson; Tuesdays: Jackson and Hall; Wednesdays: Smith and Adams;
Thursdays: Hall and Gonzales; and Fridays: Gonzales and Smith. Check with
these teachers for times.
