Thanks to all of the students that participated on the Milan High
School soccer team this year. It was a special year and you all
worked very hard. Thanks to all that came to the banquet on
Tuesday, May 20,2008. I appreciated seeing you all. I am enclosing
a summary of our banquet with pertinent information for your
perusal.Milan High School soccer celebrated their awards banquet on
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Papa's Pizza in Milan. Team members,
parents, friends and supporters were in attendance. Everyone
feasted on a buffet meal of pizza, pasta and other delicious dishes
and desserts.
The following awards were given out to team members:
Most Outstanding Player - Jay Fields
Offensive Award - Sidy Ndiaye
Defensive Award - Rick Moody
Captains Awards - Jay Fields and John Locke
Leadership Award - Devin McCoy
Energizer Award - Colton Creasy
Heart and Soul Award - John Szopinski
Spirit Award - Wesley Brockman
Other Awards included:
All District -Sidy Ndiaye, Jay Fields, John Locke, Devin McCoy and
Rick Moody
All Tournament - Jay Fields, John Locke and Rick Moody
All team members were recognized including: Sophomores Anthony
Black, Todd Jones, Matthew Hicks, Simon Saputo, Chandler Beard,
Jimmie Kernodle, and Blair Hubble. Freshmen Nick McCoy, Jesse
Martin, Taylor ad Kristin Inostroza were recognized also. Beard,
Kerodle, Hubble and the freshmen were newcomers to the team this
season.
Milan's season highlights included the following:
1. Finished third in the district and won our first tournament game,
Finished the season with a 4-6-1 record, having played four teams
that was ranked in the top twenty at various points of the season.
2. Players selected to all-district and all-tournament teams.
3. Offensive output improved in the last four games, outscoring
opponents by a two to one margin. A change from the beginning of the
season when we were outscored by a two to one margin.

4. Mr. Mark Barnett, who along with his class painted the lines on
the field all season.

7. Milan City Park director Hunter Fields and his staff.
Areas of improvement set for the 2009 season included:
1. Add ten additional players to team roster
2. Develop team sponsors
3. Increase the number of games played to sixteen
4. Enter two major tournaments during the season
MHS will sponsor a soccer camp next month and hope to reach children
who have never played competitive soccer. More information is
forthcoming. |
