Will students get their driving license after taking the course?

A student if he/she is 16 years old can go to a Tennessee driving
license examination office and take the driving test to complete
the requirements for securing a driver's license. Students who are
eligible can take the road test at Milan High School. See
Mr. Vonner for more detail.

What advantages are there for taking driver education?

Students will learn valuable skills that will make driving safer
for them, their passengers and other drivers. Additionally, many
insurance companies provide discounts for students who have taken
a certified driver education course.

Is there a fee for the course?

No, however with the current economic climate donations will be
accepted to the school district.

What skills should I be working on with my child?

Any additional driving that you can do with your child will be a
tremendous help. Letting your child drive for five minutes is
better than not lettinghim/her drive at all, but driving
proficiency begins when a child drives for thirty minutes to an
hour each time. High fuel cost may limit that but any
driving that you do with your child will help.

Can students get their permit and/or license through Milan High School?

Yes, a new program through the Tennessee Department of Safety has
certified MHS to administer the written and skills portions of
the driver license examination to students. However, this
service is for MHS students that have taken the prerequisite
courses here only.

complete the process at the Driver License Examination Station:

A. Attendance sheet from the office at MHS (see Mrs. Fesmire)
B. Two proofs of residency forms
C. Social security card
d. Birth Certificate

Special Note: Students will get a signed, sealed envelope from Mr. Vonner to

Students can go to any Driver License Examination Station in Tennessee to
