About The Teacher

Mr. Vonner has taught driver education at MHS since 2005, born in Milan, TN 
atrended Gibson County Training School-Polk Clark, has been certified to 
teach since August, 1973.  He is a 1973 graduate of the University of 
Illinois.  He retired from a national youth organization in 1997, having 
worked for them nearly twenty years in management and supervisory 
positions. 

Mr. Vonner has taught and coached in public, private and specialized schools 
in various positions to elementary, middle, high school and undergraduate 
college students in different states since 1973.  He holds a professional 
teaching license in Tennessee and a teaching license (inactive) in Illinois.
He has taught at Milan High School since August, 2005.

Mr. Vonner has taught over seven hundred students to become safe and 
responsible drivers at Milan High School; more than ten thousand over his 
career.  He emphasizes defensive driving techniques in his teachings and 
believes that defensive driving is the basis for reducing the chance of 
getting into an automobile collison.  Mr. Vonner believes, "when driving, one 
not only drives for self, but each person has to drive from other drivers' 
perspectives as well."  Hence, to be a good driver is to be a defensive 
driver.

Mr. Vonner is certified to administer written and driver's license skill test 
to qualified students through the Tennessee Department of Safety, Cooperative 
Driver Testing Program where dozens at MHS has benefitted from this 
collaboration.

Mission For The Class

The mission for MHS driver education is to develop safe, 
responsible and conscientious young drivers who use acquired skills to 
prevent collisions, make wise decisions and, become good citizens and 
productive members of society.
