Homework

  Assignments will be written on the board when they are made.  Students are 
expected to copy the assignment in their agendas.  Please check on a daily 
basis to see that your child has his/her work.  The agenda will be one way 
that I will communicate with you. I will list below the assignments for the 
week.  Please note that I teach both 5th and 6th grade classes.  Be sure you 
look at the correct grade level.

6th grade:

We will not have a reading story this week.


* Students will be required to have 12 AR points this six weeks.  
Please encourage your child to read each day. 

Objectives in reading for the week: 
                                                                           
focused research topic; persuasive devices; source reliability; figurative 
language; homophones;charts/tables/graphs; 


Language Objectives:capitalization; double negatives; correctly placing 
prepositional 
phrases; pronouns, conjunctions,interjections,

plural nouns, troublesome words-except/accept; adjectives;

(5th grade assignment)

We are reading the novel, Shades of Gray, for the next couple of weeks.
* Students need to continue reading in AR book (10 points are required).

Reading objectives:
theme, visual images,compare/contrast characters, fact/opinion,  author's 
purpose, cause and effect, figurative language,correcting run-on sentences, 
combining sentences, 
conjunctions,  first person point of view, conflict and setting, group roles, 
theme, character and plot, sequence, primary and secondary sources

Language objectives: common and proper nouns, plural nouns, prefix for 
week is quad; run-on sentences; analogies; troublesome words-accept/except
