My name is Jan Harrison. I have been teaching in this school district
for 27 years. I taught one year in Memphis, and three years in Arkansas
before moving to Milan in 1981. I have taught first, second, fourth, fifth,
and sixth grade. I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
I am married to Bill Harrison, who is a dentist, in Milan. We have two
children. Hudson is 24, a graduate of U.T.M., and works for L A Realty.
Whitney, our daughter, graduated from Union University. She will begin her
second year of pharmacy school this fall in Memphis.
I have chosen to be a middle school teacher because I recognize that the
years of early adolescence are pivotal and abound with individual potential
and opportunity. I believe that every student has the capacity to learn,
grow, and develop into a knowledgeable, caring, and contributing citizen.
Every student must be engaged in learning that is relevant and challenging.
These students face significant life choices, and they need support in making
wise and healthy decisions. I am prepared to work with this group of
students, and I am committed to their growth and development.
I want my students to be successful and learn to their maximum abilities.
