Tip of the Day:
Giving a child choices that are appropriate for your desired outcome will
leave him/her feeling empowered while accomplishing the task at hand.
Strategies to help the student with attention problems.
1. Establish eye contact before speaking. (Say their name and WAIT)
2. Give simple and clear directions. (Don't clutter the conversation
with tons of details and examples)
3. ALLOW at least 10 seconds for the child to Process your words before
they begin to act.
4. Give immediate feedback for how they followed your directions.
5. Reinforce desired behaviors with positive feedback.
6. Avoid concentrating on the many negative behaviors.
7. Try to CATCH them doing ANYTHING right!! There is no act too
small!! (Your attention to these small things will encourage GROWTH
into larger positive accomplishments)
