What does the PTO do?
We handle school fundraisers, teacher incentives, and bridging
the
gap between teachers and parents.
Where does the money go?
The money goes right back into the school. We put money in
teacher's accounts, we use it for technology, and we supply many
of the big items for the teachers.
You can view the "Treasurer's Report" on this website or come to
our monthly meetings.
Also, take a look under the tab "How is PTO Money Used?" for some
specific examples.
Why do we have to sell during the Cookie/Catalog Fundraiser?
This is how we raise money for our school without having to ask
families for a cash donation. We receive 50% of all of our
sales. But, we still need the support of all of our families. If
you have questions about how the money we receive will be used,
please check the "How Is PTO Money Used" page, read the minutes
on the "Secretary Report" page or email us at mjepto@yahoo.com.
How do I become a board member?
You are recommended and then you have to be voted in by the
previous
board.
Why should I come to the meetings?
It is a great way to keep up with what is going on at school and
there are usually some special programs such as Super Bear Awards
or musical presentations. This year we will hold "AR Time"
during meetings to allow our older students additional time to
take AR Tests. These will be held in the Computer Lab and we
will need volunteers to staff the 6-7p and 7-7:45 shifts. Please
email the PTO if you can monitor for a meeting.
How can I get involved with PTO?
Checking out this website is your first step! At the beginning
of
each school year, PTO sends out a volunteer sign-up form through
your child's teacher. This form lists the committees that are
described in the "Volunteers Needed!" section of this website.
The form is simply filled out and sent back to school. A database
is compiled of all the volunteers and distributed (with your
permission) to the various committee chairpeople.
There will also be an informational volunteer meeting during the
first month of school to give volunteers the opportunity to find
out more about the committees and other school events.
Guidelines for sending in money to PTO.
The preferred method of payment for PTO fundraisers, Kroger
Cards,
etc is a check made out to MJE PTO. PLEASE avoid sending cash if
possible. A check creates a paper trail in case it is lost
between home and the PTO mailbox.
All payments should be sent to school in a sealed, clearly
labeled
envelope. This will insure that the payment does not fall out in
a backpack or on the bus. Cash is especially hard to trace back
to the child when this happens! Thanks for all of your support
of
MJE and the PTO.
