Choose one of the following projects for the book
The Outsiders or Uglies
All papers written for any of the following projects must be typed, double-spaced, with a Times New Roman 12 point font.
- With a partner, create a newspaper for the book. Write the articles as if they are for the people living in that setting. Each person in your group must do a major article (one page typed) and a minor article (half a page typed). Examples of articles: feature stories on the main characters or an article over the main event(s). You also need to include ads that would be relevant to the story and a weather report. Include one extra section of the paper that is your choice. This could be an advice column, a game section, an obituary section, etc.
- With a partner, choose one of the main characters from the book to interview. Write your own interview questions that relate to the character and to the book. Write what you think the character would say, and then interview your partner in front of the class. You must turn in both the interview questions and the answers. Minimum of twenty questions.
******Please Note: Your questions need to consist of more than “What’s your favorite color?” etc. They need to be in depth and relevant questions and answers. You need to have at least twenty questions.
- Choose a scene from the book to draw a picture of. Try to depict the mood, setting, and characters in your picture. Write a paper describing why you chose this scene, what we learn about the characters, how this scene influences the story, and what the conflict of this scene is (if there is one).
******Please Note: If you know that you can only draw stick figures, please choose a different project! I included
option for those students that like to draw and will put real time and effort into it, not for those students that think this
will be the easiest one!
- With one or two partners, choose a scene from the book to act out and film at home. Dress for the part and be prepared to answer questions about your portrayal of the character. You will also need to write a paper including the following information: why you chose this scene, what we learn about the characters from this scene, how this scene influences the story, and what the conflict of this scene is (if there is one). Please include a typed script as well.
