Projects & Reports

The deadline to turn in your book report will be November 23 A or November
24B

Book Selection:
1. It must be a FICTION, chapter book.
2. The book should be close to a 6th grade reading level.
3. The book does have to be an AR book.
4. If you are not sure about a book, please ask me.

Written Format:
1. Your book report should be hand-written in blue or black ink.
2. It should be at least 1 page (front and back) in length and no more than 2
pages.
3. Be sure to include a title page with the following information: name of
the book, author, your name, date, class period. (This information should be
on a separate piece of paper.)

Book Report Content:
The following information should be in paragraph form!! There should be a
separate paragraph for each topic.
1.	The setting—where does the story take place? Is it a real place or an
imaginary one? If the author does not tell you exactly where the story is
set, what can you tell about it from the way it is described?
2.	The time period—is the story set in the present day or in an earlier
time period? Perhaps it is even set in the future! Let your reader know.
(Setting and Time period may be in the same paragraph.)
3.	The main character(s)—who is the story mostly about? Give a brief
description. Often, one character can be singled out as the main character,
but some books will have more than one.
4.	The plot—what happens to the main character? WARNING! Be careful
here. Do not fall into the boring trap of reporting every single thing that
happens in the story. Pick only the most important events. Here are some
hints on how to do that. First, explain the situation of the main character
as the story opens. Next, identify the basic plot element of the story--is
the main character trying to achieve something or overcome a particular
problem? Thirdly, describe a few of the more important things that happen to
the main character as he/she works toward that goal or solution. Finally, you
might hint at the story's conclusion without completely giving away the
ending.
5.	Your final paragraph should be your opinion of the book. What did
you like and dislike about it, and do you recommend it?

Visual Requirement:
On white paper that I give you, you must create a NEW book cover for your
book. (Do not use the current cover design.) The cover must include the
TITLE, AUTHOR, and your name in the corner. It should be colorful and
appealing; make people want to buy the book!!!
