Team Letter

August 1, 2009

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year at Mt. Juliet Middle School.  We would like to be among the first in welcoming you to a new school as well as to a new school year.  We look forward to working with you and your child.

Since the middle school concept may be new for some of you, it’s our pleasure to briefly describe what it entails.  Your child has already been placed with a team (Team 6A).  Each team has five teachers that will closely work with you and your child to ensure a successful year.  The teaming model is used to help make your child’s transition from elementary school to middle school as easy as possible.  We will also be on a block schedule system (A days Mon. & Wed. /B days Tues. & Thurs., A&B Fri.), which will be explained in more detail at Open House (July 30th, 2009 at 6:00 pm).  So there will be many new changes for your child this year.

*Expectations:

·        Arrive on time in dress code to school daily.  This includes having their shirt tucked in and wearing a belt.

·        Turn in class work/homework on time.

·        Come to class prepared with all required classroom materials and your         AGENDA.

·        Treat people, property, and yourself with respect.

*Agenda/Email/Communication:

  • We do use email frequently, so please check for emails.
  • The students should always have their daily work and homework copied in their agenda.
  • The agenda is one way that we communicate with you.
  • We will write notes in the agenda as needed.
  • Due to the spam system our email system uses, please put your child’s name and date in the subject line of your emails.
  • Teacher Web is a great source of information for our team!  Teacher web is where all assignments are posted in case your child does not write the assignments in their agenda.  http://www.teacherweb.com/TN/MtJulietMiddleSchool/Team6a/index.html

*Attendance Policy:

  • Please read the attendance/tardy policies in your child’s agenda.
  • It is your child’s responsibility to get any of their make-up work the day they return.

*Homework:

·        PLEASE make sure your child gets his/her make-up work when absent!

·        For any missing assignment, the student will receive an infraction.

*Discipline:

  • Students who receive 5 or less infractions for the NINE week period will be eligible for the end of the nine week reward party.
  • Email/parent notification will be sent for each missing assignment.
  • Email/parent notification will be sent home after FIVE infractions from the team.
  • Once a student receives 10 or more infractions, a second email/parent notification will be sent home and a conference may be scheduled.
  • If a student has an office referral that results in detention, ISS, or OSS, they will not be able to attend the end of the nine week reward day.

**This PROCESS will start over after each nine week period; HOWEVER there is a running tally of infractions for the entire year that will determine your child’s involvement with the end of the year reward!**

  • Students who receive 20 or less infractions, 1 ISS or detentions, AND have had no OSS will participate in an end of the year reward day.
  • If a student shows dramatic improvement in work ethic from the first semester, that student may also be awarded per teacher discrection.
  • Principal discretion may be used at any time regarding a students’ involvement with reward days.
  • Each teacher will have a set of classroom rules and consequences that pertain to his/her class.
  • Please remember that middle school students are accountable to the upper grades’ discipline code and consequences.

We understand that this is a lot of information and that you have been bombarded with information, but we feel it is important to establish these standards early in the year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us by email, letter, or telephone.  We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.  Thank you in advance for your support and the success of this year.  We realize the importance your role plays in your child’s education this year.

Thank you again for your support!
