August 3, 2009
Dear Parent(s)/Guardians,
Welcome to the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year at Mt. Juliet
Middle School. We would like to be among the first in welcoming you to a
new school as well as to a new school year. We are looking forward to a
wonderful school year filled with many opportunities for you and your child.
Since the middle school concept may be new for some of you, its our
pleasure to briefly describe what it entails. Your child has already been
placed with a team. Each team has five teachers that will closely work with
you and your child to ensure a successful year. The teaming model is used
to help make your childs transition from the elementary level to the middle
school level as easy as possible. Not only are we teaming this year, but we
are also implementing a new schedule, the block schedule. Block scheduling
will be explained in more detail at open house. So there will be many new
changes for your child this year.
Expectations
Arrive on time in dress code to school daily.
 Turn in homework on time.
Come to class prepared with all required classroom materials and
your Agenda.
Treat property, people, and self with respect.
Agenda/ Email/ Communication
The agenda is one way that we communicate with you.
The student should always have his or her daily work assignments and
homework assignments copied down for each day.
We will write notes in the agenda as needed.
We are very email friendly. Please check for emails often.
Due to the spam filter on our email system, please make sure that
your emails to us have your childs name in the subject line.
Teacherweb is a valuable source of information. It includes each
teachers homework assignments.
Attendance
Please read the attendance/ tardy policies in the agenda.
It is the childs responsibility to get their make-up assignments
the day they return.
Homework
Late work receives a maximum grade of a 70/D per school policy.
(This does not include work for excused absences.)
For every missing assignment, the student will receive an infraction.
Discipline
Students who receive five or fewer infractions for the nine weeks
will be eligible for the end of the nine week reward day.
Email/ parent notification will be sent home after five infractions
from the team.
When a student receives 7 or more infractions, they will be referred
to guidance.
When a student receives 10 or more infractions, a second email/
parent notification will be sent home from the team.
This will start over each nine weeks.
If a student has an office referral that results in detention, ISS
or OSS, they will not be able to attend the reward day.
Children who receive less than 20 infractions, one ISS or detention,
and no OSS will participate in a special end of the year reward day.
Each teacher will have a set of classroom rules and consequences.
We realize this is a lot of information coming home to you and that you
have been bombarded with information, and we apologize for that. However,
we feel that this is very important information, and more important is the
establishment of these standards early on. If you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to contact us by letter, email, or telephone.
Please note that if you call us early in the day, we may not be able to
return your phone call until the afternoon since that is when our planning
time occurs. We do encourage questions and concerns as a way of making this
year as successful as possible for you and your child. Thank you in advance
for the success of this year. We realize the importance your role plays in
your childs education this year along with all of your childs educational
years.
Thanks,
