- What can I do to get extra credit?
Can you tell me my grade?
If you come to me early in the day I might be able to give you an estimate
of your current grade. I record grades over the weekend, so Monday's are the
best days for you to ask. One thing you can do is keep a list of your daily
grades in your math notebook. Averaging these grades with your tests, which
count three times, can give you a good idea of what your average is.
Will I (my child) have homework every night?
There will be an assignment given every day we are in class. The majority
of these will have at least some part that will need to be completed at home
topractice the skills we learned in class. Occasionally(once every couple of
weeks)there will be days when we do work in class and I will take it from
them. I plan to instruct students to indicate in their agenda when this
occurs. As a parent, please ask to see your child's assignments as often as
possible. If he/she tells you that they finished it at school they should
still have it in their notebook to show to you. Doing this will help you,
your child and me to all be on the same page and we can catch patterns of
not doing homework before they become a problem.
Do you give homework passes?
Yes, but not often. I usually reward good grades on tests (an A or B)with
some form of homework or add points pass. If we do activities in class,
such as board races, math bingo, or other games, passes can be earned.
Homework is assigned for your benefit and I do not want you to miss out on
practicing the skills we learn in class, so I may limit the use of passes on
some assignments.
Is there anything parents can do to help out in the classroom?
My most pressing need is usually consumable supplies. We go through kleenex
VERY quickly, especially during allergy and cold season. If at any time you
would like to send in items like kleenex, paper towels, dry erase markers,
or individually wrapped hard candies (for coughs and/or reward prizes)it
would be greatly appreciated! We are also looking to add to our classroom
libraries. If you find inexpensive or used paperbacks that are on our AR
list and would like to donate them, that would be great too!
What can I do to get extra credit?
I will be giving out assignments, usually on Fridays, that will count as
extra credit. These will be graphing, logic puzzles, or brain teasers that
you can do with your family or alone. Specific instructions will be given
as assignments are made. Other than that, extra credit is RARE. Do your
homework and you shouldn't need it.
