Mrs. Kelly Jo Birmingham
I have been teaching in DeKalb County School System since August 1996.
I received my Bachelor's of Music and Master's Degrees from Tennessee
Technological University. Currently, I teach general music to students at
both NES and SES. I am also the assistant band director at DCHS. During the
spring semester, I teach the high school winter
drumline, named DC-1.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Eric, for over fourteen years.
We have four terrific children, their ages ranging from 9 to 2 years. We have
a Bassett Hound named Kita. This year, soccer games and practices for three
kids plus weekly Girl Scout and Cub Scout meetings tend to keep me busy after
school! Not to mention band and drumline rehearsals!
I have a passion for music AND for my students. I am delighted to be
returning to Northside Elementary School as your
child's music teacher! I am ready to make this year the BEST yet!
I try to make music fun for the students. During a typical music class, I
like to introduce a music game or activity at the end of the lesson to
reinforce the day's objective. I also encourage cross-curricular activities
which helps to reinforce learning in other subject areas.
I believe when children laugh, they are listening. When they listen, they
are learning.
I also believe if children can walk, they can dance. If they can talk, they
can sing.
