Why study Spanish?

Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world.  The hispanic 
population is growing rapidly in the United States, even in East Tennessee.  
It is helpful to know Spanish when visiting countries where Spanish is 
spoken.  Many jobs offer opportunities for advancement and travel if you are 
bilingual.  Knowing Spanish can help you in any career that involves dealing 
with the public.  Studies show that learning a foreign language improves 
your English vocabulary.  Students who study a foreign language score higher 
on college entrance exams, such as the ACT and the SAT.  It also makes you a 
more interesting person!

How can I learn vocabulary better and faster?

Making and using flashcards is very helpful, as are doing your homework, 
paying attention in class, and studying outside of class.  You may also want 
to access Spanish language websites, including the textbook website.

Practice makes perfect!  Do your homework and pay attention in class.  Write 
out verb conjugation charts over and over and over again.  Copy sentences 
from your book.

Use an online tutor and practice with a native speaker.  Don't be afraid to 
make mistakes, and speak up in class.  There are links to some free online
