To all parents of Algebra 1 students:
The new standards that have been implemented by the State of Tennessee are
beginning to really kick in for some students. What I mean by that is -
averages are falling, and fast.
Here are some suggestions for what a student can be doing at home to be more
successful in Algebra class:
1. Make sure they know their multiplication tables backwards and forwards.
2. Make sure they have the squares of numbers 1-25 memorized.
3. Make sure they have the square roots of numbers 1-625 memorized.
4. They should practice multiplying fractions every day. There are all kinds
of websites for this. All you have to do is google "multiplying fractions."
5. They should constantly review the work we have done in class. So far that
is:
Chapter 2 Sections 1-7
Chapter 8 Sections 1-3
Chapter 9 Section 2
The class is really about to start moving at a fast pace, and it is going to
take students working every night for 15-30 minutes to keep up REGARDLESS OF
WHETHER OR NOT I GIVE HOMEWORK. I can not stress enough the importance of
constant review and practice. In fact, we will be taking 1-3 ten minute
quizzes per week that will test everything we have done to the time of the
quiz. I believe in constant remediation.
Help me help your child!! Ask them what we are studying. Make them tell you
specifically. Make them show you an example. If they can not, email me and
tell me.
Lets work together.
