Science Fair Guidelines

Science Fair Project

All science fair projects should be comparisons. They should follow this outline.

I. Purpose
The purpose is the reason for doing the project. What do you want to find
out? It should be a question.

II. Hypothesis
The hypothesis is the answer to the PURPOSE question. It is an “educated guess”.

III. Materials
The materials list is a list of items you will use to conduct your experiment.

IV. Procedure
The procedure is the step-by step set of directions for conducting your
experiment. If you get an idea from a book, you MUST write the procedure IN
YOUR OWN WORDS. Do not copy the procedure straight from a book.

V. Data
The data is the information you collect while conducting the experiment. It
should be in one of the following forms:
A. Table
B. Graph
C. Photographs (Do NOT include faces in the photographs)

VI. Conclusion
The conclusion has 2 parts. What did you learn? Was your hypothesis correct?

Put your name and Homeroom on the back of the science fair board.
