How can I reach my student's teacher?

I can be reached 1 of 2 ways.
1) I am always happy to take phone calls during my planning time. This is also when we will
schedule any parent/teacher conferences that are needed throughout the year other than the 2
evenings after school.

2) I check my e-mail on a daily basis. That has become a very popular way of communicating.
My e-mail link is on this page or it is parkerp@k12tn.net.

What is your homework policy?

As a team, we have realized that students turning in late work has become a huge problem over
the past few years. In order to more effectively get students attention about the importance of
turning it in on time, we have decided as a team that the highest a student can make on late
work is a 80. If a student then misses 10 problems, their grade will become a 70. This can have
a great effect on their grades. Therefore, we feel when the student notices this, they will make a
better effort to get work in on time.

Students will only be allowed to return to their lockers to get work they have left during individual
class time, immediately after class, or at any locker break. As long as a student has their work
turned in to the appropriate class tray by 3 pm on the due date, work will not be counted late. If
they are caught working on it in another class, the teacher will take it up and the student may
return to them at 3 pm to get it. However, if this becomes a continuous problem for any student,
this policy may change.

What if my child loses a worksheet or workbook page?

I will make 1 copy for them and that's it. They are 6th graders and should be able to keep up with
work. We stress to them at the beginning of the year the importance of organization and keeping
things in the appropriate folders.

How many days does my child get to make up absent work?

Your child gets the same number of days to make up any work that he was absent. For example, if
your child was absent for 2 days, then they get 2 days from the day they return to make up absent
work. If they do not get it made up in those two days, it then becomes late. Please stress to your
child it is their responsibility to come to us to get any missed assignments.

How can I make sure my child is doing their homework?

Please check the homework section of this web page for homework assignments. I have links to the
other green team teachers web pages for their homework as well. You can also have your student
keep a planner to write assignments in on a daily basis. This is a great tool for those children who
have trouble remembering their assignments.

What exactly is the take home folders purpose?

Each Tuesday, your child will bring a folder home with all graded papers from the previous week.
This is to allow you to keep track of your child's progress throughout the nine weeks before
seeing the progress report and report card. I make notes of life skills in this area, any Ds or Fs
that are in the folder for that week, and any other problems I may see. I will put a smiley face if
no problems with a student that week. This is not for grades, however. Please be aware that we
have found students who tend to edit their folders before parents see them. If there is ever a
question on a child's progress, please get in touch with me or send a note.

What is the school dress code?

No oversized clothes allowed. Pants must sit at a child's waist. Shirts must not show any skin when
the child's arms are raised above head. Shorts or skirts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the
knee. Pants of any kind must not have holes anywhere. No tank tops, muscle shirts, or any shirts
with spaghetti straps are allowed.

What is the school policy about electronics?

Absolutely no electronics of any kind - including cell phones. Cell phones are becoming a huge
problem. There is a stricter discipline procedure this year in all grades which may include after-
school detention, in-school suspension, or out of school suspension.

What is Wesley Woods and when does the green team go?

Wesley Woods is an environmental camp that only the 6th grade attends. It is located in Townsend,
TN. Our team goes each year the first Wednesday-Friday in April. More information will be sent
home in the first few weeks of school.

What if my child does not attend Wesley Woods?

Your child is expected to be present at school. They will be counted absent if not on the trip and
not at school. While the team is gone, any students which stay back that owe make-up work will
get caught up. However, no new material is introduced. All material taught is in relation to
environmental topics that relate back to curriculum standards.
