Welcome to kindergarten! We are beginning a new year that will be filled
with learning and excitement. I have already told many of you that
kindergarten is the new first grade. Our goal is to have your child reading
or at least identifying words before they are considered ready to move to
first grade. The housekeeping center, block center, art center, and drama
center found in the kindergarten classrooms of yesterday is now replaced with
circle time spent in language developmemt, phonics instruction, phonemic
awareness, and decoding consonant-vowel-consonant word. Seat work includes
writing, practicing the skills presented during instruction time, and
independent reading. Many children will need to immediately develop their
attention span to stay on task without teacher intervention.
Our day will also include a math period, a social studies/science/health
time, a related arts class, and that most important part of the day -
PLAYGROUND break.
The librarian is setting up the Book Fair. A phamplet will be sent home to
show some of the selections. You are invited to attend a parent night to
view the books and make some purchases. If you are unable to attend, you may
send the monies (please label the envelope and the books you wish to buy)
with your child and we will take them to the library to buy the books.
