Will my child have homework every night?

Your child may have homework during the week, depending on how much does not get completed at
school. If your child is coming home with alot of homework, then you can bet that they are not using
their time wisely in class. I usually do not assign anything extra just for homework. Homework in my
classroom is classwork that did not get completed at school. Special projects may
require work on the weekends. But please note I expect your child to
take time every night outside of assigned homework to read, study
word sorts, and practice multiplication and division facts.
Please see the homework link for more specifications regarding
homework.

What can I do at home with my child to help him/her with schoolwork?

You can practice math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division). Please make an effort to read with your child on a daily
basis and check their notebook and agenda book for homework
assignments. The agenda books need to be signed daily.

Does my child have to read every night?

Your child needs to make a habit of reading every night. A reading
log will be kept of all the books your child reads at home and at
school.

How will I know how my child is doing academically?

Besides report cards being issued every nine weeks, you will know on a
weekly basis. Your child will bring home progress papers folder
with work from the previous week. It will need to be signed
and returned. Also in the middle of the nine weeks, a mid-nine weeks progress report will
go home with averages thus far in the nine weeks. This keeps you informed and not
surprised at grades when report cards come home.

What should I do if I think my child is having some problems?

If the problems are academically or emotionally, I would like for the
parent to inform me about the concern. We could set up a time to meet
to discuss what's happening with your child. Depending on the
circumstance we might be able to come up with a game plan to resolve
the problems, set up an S-Team, or find other ways to deal with what is going
on in your child's life (names of counseling, support groups, etc..).

Where are places that I can take my child outside of school?

These are great places to take your child: the public library,
Cumberland Science Museum, Imaginarium, Cheekwood, etc... If you
would like other ideas check the Nasville Parent magazine or the local
paper.

How can I help my child get along better with other children?

I am a firm believer in having your child become active and involved
in their community. Join your child up for sports, dance, music lessons,
karate, along with other activities that you might choose. Let your
child have friends over so that they can have one on one time with
their friends.

How should I reward my child for good behavior or grades?

Give praise and special priviledges for good actions. You don't have
to spend lots of money on your child to let them know that you are proud
of them. (Ex. Go to the park, go for a walk, make a special dessert,
etc..).
