Fine Motor Activities:

Cut with scissors (Use old catalog or advertisements to make an alphabet book.)
Button and Zip clothing
Use clay and play dough to strengthen fingers and lower arm muscles
Color
Build with Lego’s, Tinker toys, and other small toys
Use tweezers and tongs to pick up things and place them into another container
Use paper hole puncher to punch out holes. Punch out drawn letters, numbers, or shapes
Play Jacks and marbles
When writing use a pencil grip (this item can be purchased at a teaching store) and hold a small pom pom with the 4th and 5th fingers
Put together puzzles
Do wall push-ups and chair push ups to strengthen lower arm muscles
Use shaving cream to practice writing letters on the bathroom wall while taking a bath
Do chair push-ups before writing activities
Write or paint on an incline or easel.

Gross motor activities will help your child become more coordinated and confident! Games provide children with wonderful opportunities to practice their problem solving skills! Cooperation is another skill learned though game play!

Gross Motor Activities:

Play games: Hopscotch, Twister, Jump Rope, and Simon Says
Skills: Jump, hop, skip, run, and balance
Ball skills: Catch, drop and catch, toss and catch
Try a new activity like gym aerobics, gymnastics, ballet, soccer, swimming, bike riding, ballet, or T-Ball
Visits local play grounds and trynew age appropriate equipmentWalk on top of a rope that has been taped to the floor or use a balance beam with an adult’s assistance
