I've started my guidance classes this week in K-2 after a get acquainted
activity in each classroom. We're reading and talking about the book Have You
Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud in grades 1 and 2. The book explains
everyone has an invisible bucket. All day long, we are either filling up or
dipping into each other's buckets by what we say and do. When someone gives
you a compliment, does or says something nice to you, they are a bucket
filler. When someone is rude, makes fun of someone, say and do mean things,
they are a bucket dipper. We do not want bucket dippers at Stoner Creek! When
you fill someone's bucket, you fill your own bucket too! When you're a bucket
filler, you make your home, school, neighborhood and community a better place
to be. When our buckets are full, we are happy and sad when our buckets are
empty. Each day, we should remember and plan to be bucket fillers! We talked
about many ways we can fill each others buckets. Please, talk to your child
about filling buckets at school and home. Stoner Creek is going to be a
bucket filling school! There is a website www. bucketfillers 101.com with
weekly newsletters that can be e mailed to you. This is the theme of the
guidance program all year long in all grade levels. Even when I do our other
guidance curriculums, we'll still talk about being bucket fillers!
Guidance classes are every other week (unless we have a holiday or
break). One week I do K-2 classes and the next week 3-4 classes. Fifth grade
has guidance once a month.
We'll soon start our Mendez Too Good for Violence curriculum.
