Character Counts!Caring is our third character pillar (November 9-January 8). Caring is at the heart of an ethical person's character. Caring people love, help, give and are kind. They are care takers of people, pets, plants, possessions and even the planet. You can tell a caring person by what she or he does, for caring is more than just a feeling. Caring people show consideration, kindness, compassion and generosity to others. So, talk to your child about being caring. Help your child to do caring acts such as bring a new toy or canned food for the Big Brothers boxes in the front hall of the school. This helps them to develop the attitude of compassion and thinking of others. Caring is the golden rule, it is the guideline accepted around the world "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Character building is captured in the acronym T.E.A.M. (teach, enforce, advocate and model). We teach character by promoting values and developing ethical virutes that make a good person. A person that is responsible, respectful, caring, trustworthy, fair and a good citizen. Kids should understand what these traits look like. What you allow, you encourage. At Stoner Creek, we relentlessly advocate our commitment to good character so our students have no doubt what we want for them and expect from them. We instill positive values by modeling the virtues we want to see in all of our students. Our goal is to make good thoughts and conduct a matter of daily habit. At Stoner Creek, Character Counts!!
The Six Pillars of Character are: Responsibility (August 3-September 11) Respect (September 14-November 6) Caring (November 9-January 8) Fairness(January 11-February 19) Trustworthiness (February21-April 9) Citizenship (April 11-May 27) At each pep rally, teachers select two students to get Character awards. Students get a certificate and restaurant coupon. The fourth pep rally, students will get general good character awards. |
