Announcements

February 13, 2012We will be doing Victorian presentations Friday, so Wednesday's homework
should be crossed off your syllabus.

February 9, 2012 Hard Times books are in at The Booksellers at Laurelwood. They
are in the special closet, so you may have to tell them you are from White Station and ask for a copy.
They are $4.95 plus tax. I only ordered seventy copies, so it is first come, first serve. Support your local
bookstore! If they sell out, check Burke's Books in Cooper Young; they need your business, too.

I have an introduction to the Victorian Period Powerpoint posted now. It adds depth to the
material in the textbook and has terrific images.

February 5, 2012 The Booksellers at Laurelwood already have eleven copies of Hard
Times by Charles Dickens for those who want to get a head start on the novel. When the rest come
in, I'll post the announcement here.

January 30, 2012 I have posted tomorrow's Keats discussion questions on the handouts
page. Also, there is a link to Google Docs on the links page for students to upload their Romantic
Powerpoint presentations to share with others. Please take a moment to upload your group's if
it isn't already there.

January 24, 2012 My mother's surgeon had a family emergency, so I will be here after all, but
the schedule will remain as is.

Sign-up sheets for Victorian Period web quests are posted on the bulletin board. The topics are:

Social Class/Victorian Etiquette
Industrial Revolution/Working Conditions
Children and Education
Crime and Punishment
House, Furniture, Fashion, Objects (Weird, I know, but these Victorians were materialistic folks.)
Family
Victoria's Reign-Home Affairs
Religion and Philosophy
The Empire

January 20, 2012 Due to my mother's surgery next week, I have made a few minor
adjustments in the syllabus.

Monday- Frankenstein Culminating Activity
Tuesday-Frankenstein Test, H/W Read Shelley (pp. 801-810).
Wednesday- Shelley Introduction, no pair work, H/W Read Byron (pp. 793-799).
Thursday- Byron Introduction, Ms. Rosenblum substitutes
Friday-Shelley Student Presentation "Ode to the West Wind," H/W Read Keats (pp. 824-838)

January 18, 2012 There's a new Frankenstein website posted on the links page.

January 10, 2012 There is a terrific video at the bottom of the handouts page that
incorporates Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with modern science. Watch it with a warning that
some of the science is rather graphic. If you choose to skip certain sections, I'll understand.

January 6, 2012 Next week is homecoming week; the themes for each day
are as follows:
Monday-Blast from the Past
Tuesday-Cowboys vs. Aliens
Wednesday-Famous Couples
Thursday-Class Distinction Day: Senior Citizens
Friday-Green and Gray Day

January 5, 2012 The groups for the Romantic Poets projects have been
selected by an IPad App (hence the silly names). Please check to see who you
will be working with and what you will be doing.

January 3, 2012 I am running a slight temperature, so my mother will be
filling in for me tomorrow. Please help her all you can. If someone in each
class can watch the counter on the dvd player and stop it at the end of the
Wordsworth section (The end numbers are on my lesson plan book.) for
her, I would greatly appreciate it. There are two handouts to pick up when you
walk into the classroom tomorrow, or someone in each class may volunteer to
pass them out. Thanks so much. See you Thursday.

January 3, 2012 In case I lose my voice, I have put my Wordsworth notes
on the handouts page. Also, I have posted a terrific Powerpoint on
"Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey" that was created by members
of the Class of 2011. Check it out.

The class needs more tissue. If you did not bring a box last semester, it is
your turn.

January 1, 2012 Print a copy of the quarter syllabus and place it in
front of the course syllabus in your binder. Tuesday, come to class with all
the supplies listed in the course syllabus.

Remember, those who have no unexcused absences, limited excused absences, and
a "B" average in a course are exempted from final exams. This starts Second
Semester, so come Tuesday with a hardworking, professional attitude.
