Be sure to check the syllabus each day.
April 18, 2012 "Thinking Critically" (p.1182) #5-10
April 17, 2012 If you were absent today, be sure to read "The Hollow
Men" by T.S.Eliot. It is in the print textbook but not the online one.
However, it is easily found online. There is a Powerpoint posted
discussing the allusions. There will be a test Friday on it and "Araby" (pp.
1173-1182) by James Joyce.
April 16, 2012 All parts of the project folder should be completed at
this point.
April 5, 2012 The second "Student Weekly Planning" sheet is due Monday.
April 3, 2012 Take a moment to look at the senior project handout on
the handouts page for two reasons:
1. Make sure your topic is correct and think about how it can be narrowed for
specificity, so I can update my information.
2. Consider whether your topic is too similar to another project and plan to
connect with that person or group to make sure there is no overlap in the
material.
There are no groups working on James Joyce, which is a pity.
Remember, this project is nearly half your grade. It must be dynamic.
Friday, March 30, 2012Monday the first "Student Weekly Planning Sheet"
is due for each student. Also, if you did not present in class, you must add
any relevant information to the "Short Story" or TP-CASTT handout and turn it
in. I need to know what you would've shared in class orally to better
assess your grade. I apologize to those who did not get to present, but this
unexpected move has put a real damper on my plans.
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 Project folders are due tomorrow and modern
literature handout.
Monday, March 26, 2012 Select a short story or poem from the Modern
Period in the textbook to complete either a short story worksheet or TP-CASTT
on and share with the class either Wednesday or Thursday.
Wednesday, March 21, 2012
1. View the D.H. Lawrence Powerpoint.
2. Read "The Rocking Horse Winner" (pp. 1186-1199).
3. Complete the questions on the handout: All students will answer questions
#1, 2, and 12.
Rows 1&2 (starting at the first row when entering the classroom)-Add
questions 3, 4, and 5
Rows 3&4-Add questions 6, 7, and 8
Rows 5-7 (in front of my desk)-Add questions 9, 10, and 11
I would prefer these to be typed.
Tuesday, March 20, 2012 Please refer to the announcements page for
directions for tomorrow.
Monday, March 19, 2012-Finish reading "The Modern World" (pp.
1017-1036). Then,
complete “Write About...” (p. 1036) 1-2 pages, Opinion piece (First person is
allowed but no second person.)--Be sure to defend your opinion with specific
details from history and contemporary life. You do not have to focus on
Britain for examples; however, you should reference today's reading assignment
in your introduction. Due to tomorrow's ACT testing, this assignment will be
taken up Thursday.
