About The Teacher

I have been in education for over 25 years. I am a graduate of George
Peabody College for Teachers and did my Masters work at Middle Tennessee
State University in mathematics.

I have taught General Mathematics, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Honors Geometry,
Technical Mathematics, Technical Algebra, Technical Geometry, Advanced
Algebra & Trigonometry, AP Calculus, and Statistics.

I am an active member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics,
Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association & Middle Tennessee Mathematics
Teachers. I serve on the Curriculum Writing Committee for the State
Department of Education as well as being a state mathematics trainer. I also
do mathematics consulting work for various other organizations such as the
TEMSTEC Center at MTSU.

I have been married for 28 years to David and have two sons, Brittan,
21 and Patrick, 18. Brittan is now married to Linda as of this summer and
Patrick is a freshman at Belmont University.

My hobbies are music - playing the piano -, cooking, reading, and collecting
antique buttons.

Mission For The Class

The goal of my mathematics classes is that all of my students
understand and appreciate the mathematics they are studying; that they can
read it, write it, explore it, and communicate it with confidence; and that
they will be able to use mathematics as they need to in their lives.

I believe that problem solving (investigating, conjecturing, predicting,
analyzing, and verifying), followed by a well-reasoned presentation of
results, is central to the process of learning mathematics, and that this
learning happens most effectively in a cooperative, student-centered
classroom.
