FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
  1. What if my son or daughter doesn't remember how to do the homework?
  2. What if he/she is absent due to illness or other reasons?
  3. Does my student need a tutor?

What if my son or daughter doesn't remember how to do the homework?

I never expect the students to learn a new topic on their own. I will always
instruct first using a variety of methods: Power Points, graphing
calculators, over-head transparencies, written examples, etc. I then post
answers so the students can check while they work during class and I monitor.
If that's still not enough, your student should give me about 5 minutes
before school the very next day so that I can get him/her back on track.

What if he/she is absent due to illness or other reasons?

I cover material every day. I have seen strong students respond in class
with a "dear-in-the-headlights" look after missing only one day. Your
student should plan to see me for a few minutes before school on the day
he/she comes back for assignments and explanations. It's important that it be
before school, not before class as it takes up too much of class time.

Does my student need a tutor?

Probably not. We have several opportunities at school for extra help. Besides
the times that I am available (before school and during homeroom), we have a
math lab run by a math teacher from 7 - 7:45 daily and after school from 3 -
4:00 Monday thru Thursday.
