Both my parents were officers in the United States Air Force. I am,
therefore, a well traveled individual. I have been to or lived in 38 of the
50 states and several foreign countries (predominately Europe).
I earned my undergraduate degree at Middle Tennessee State University in
English and Secondary Education. I have been teaching in Wilson County
Schools for 10 years--the last 9 years I have been at Wilson Central High
School. I earned my graduate degree in Educational Administration from
Cumberland University in 2008.
I am married and my husband and I live in Lebanon.
The English III class is an exploration of American Literature. Students
will read a wide variety of literature written by american authors and
explore the expansion of the English language. Students will be provided
with some historical background so that they may understand and explore the
author's motivations for writing and understand how politics influences
literature. Additionally, students will learn to identify the public belief
system of a particular historical period by analyzing literature from that
time period.
Students will be responsible for completing a research paper. During the
junior year, the writing skills we will focus on are elements of persuasion
and rhetoric. Therefore, students will write a position research paper.
Each student will pick a hot-button topic that is broad enough that the
student will find plenty of information for both sides of the issue. Some
example topics include abortion, prayer in public schools, socialized
healthcare reform, capital punishment, assisted medical suicide, etc.
Specific information will be given to students in class. Deadlines are
posted on this website.
